스트레이텀 하우스Stratum House는 콘크리트 거푸집이나 보강 성분 및 재질의 변화보다는 콘크리트 자체의 성분과 배합에 대한 실험으로 제안된 프로젝트이다. 기본적으로 콘크리트는 시멘트, 물 및 골재의 배합으로 구성된다. 시멘트는 물과 혼합되면서 페이스트를 형성하고, 석재 및 골재와 함께 그 성질이 강화된다.
Stratum House seeks a new way of concrete casting method simulating a geologic formation. Concrete works in a combination of cement, water and aggregate. Cement is mixed with water to form a paste, and its properties are strengthened together with aggregates.
이 페이스트는 다양한 크기의 골재를 감싸고 채우며 경화되어 콘크리트가 된다. 각 성분의 변화를 테스트하면서 얻는 결과에 대한 궁금증으로 프로젝트가 시작되었다.
These pastes wrap and fill aggregates of various sizes and become hardened. The project started with a curiosity of concrete composition, its casting process, and reaction on the results from testing the changes of its constituents.
물의 비율을 높이면 슬럼프 치가 높아져 콘크리트가 스스로 수평에 가까운 형상을 만들게 되고 반대가 되면 슬럼프 치가 낮아져 작업성이 어려울 정도의 덩어리로 마운드를 형성하게 된다. 이러한 슬럼프 치에 따른 모양의 변화가 첫 번째 실험 변수가 된다.
Three constraints are applied; water-cement ratio, use of diverse aggregates and different amount of pigment. The change of concrete shape according to the slump value is the first. When the water ratio is increased, the slump value is increased. The concrete forms a shape close to the horizontal. On the other case, the slump value is reduced and the mound is formed with a mass.
골재의 크기도 고려대상이 된다. 잔 골재와 굵은 골재의 비율에 따라 노출 콘크리트의 면에서 드러나는 재질감의 변화가 두 번째 변수가 된다. 마지막은 염료의 배합에 따른 콘크리트 층의 색상 변화이다. 이 세가지 변수를 달리하며 구조체와 마감이 되는 벽을 1일1회 타설하여 다른 퀄러티를 담는 콘크리트 층으로 시간의 흔적을 담아내는 입면을 구성한다.
The second is the variety of texture on exposed concrete surface depending on the ratio of fine to coarse aggregate. The last is the color changes of the surface. With the combinations of these three variables; shape, texture and color, the concrete of each different quality is cast on-site everyday. It allows to have delicately designed divisions of stacked concrete layers showing time differences.
Stratum House 는 세 가족을 위한 두개의 별도 건물로 구성되어 있다. 2개의 집은 직각으로 자리 잡고 있으며, 앞마당과 뒷마당을 함께 어울리며 식사하는 공간으로 공유한다.
Stratum House consists of two separate buildings for three families. Two houses sit on perpendicular to share a front and back yard for social gardens and dining.
각 유닛은 작지만 기능적으로 구성되어 있다. 거실은 햇빛과 풍경을 극대화하기 위해 남동쪽에 배치되었다. 주방과 방은 거실과 계단으로 연결되어있다.
Unit plans are small yet functionally figured. Living rooms are placed towards South and East for sun exposure and maximized view. Kitchens and rooms are connected to the living room with a stair.
2층에는 2개의 건물 각각 가족과 함께할 수 있는 개별 테라스를 가지고 있다. 각 층의 야외 공간은 내부와 외부를 자연 속으로 스며드는 시퀀스 간의 대화를 만들어낸다.
On the second floor two buildings have individual terraces for private family activities. The buildings outdoor spaces on each level create a dialogue among sequences penetrating inside and outside of the building into nature.
