서울 도심의 40평대 아파트 리모델링 프로젝트이고, 건축주는 갓 아이를 낳은 신혼부부이다. 자연스럽고 단아한 분위기를 좋아하는 건축주 부부의 취향과 아기를 위한 친환경적 공간 조성을 위해 진성 재료인 나무가 주재료가 된 것은 필연이었다.
It is a remodeling project for a 142.18㎡ apartment in downtown Seoul, and our client is a newly-wed couple with their new born baby. In order to meet the demands of the couple who like natural and graceful atmosphere and create an eco-friendly living space for the baby, wood was selected as main materials by a natural process.
이 집은 천장 높이가 들쑥날쑥해 여러 층위를 가져 난잡해 보이는 것이 가장 큰 공간적 단점이었다. 그래서 이를 최대한 통일하여 기능을 한 곳으로 몰아 천장형 에어컨과 간접 조명 박스, 커텐 박스를 하나의 조형으로 정리하였다. 또 역발상으로 보가 지나가는 위치는 벽과 연결해 하나의 ㄱ자 오브제로 만들었다. 그로 인해 집의 중심을 가로지르는 위치의 자작나무 ㄱ자 벽이 이 집의 시그니처가 되었고 이름도 ‘자작나무 ㄱ집’으로 지었다.
이 집에는 보통의 집이 동일한 위치에 가지고 있는 TV 뒷 벽의 아트 월 따위는 없다. 또 자작나무 ㄱ자 벽은 기존 아파트의 오픈형 평면의 한계로 인해 한 공간으로 붙어 있던 주방과 거실 사이에 인지적 구분의 오브제가 되어 준다. 물리적으로 연결돼 있되 인지적으로 구별되는 두 공간으로 생활의 층위는 한결 더 깊어진다.
The largest spacial disadvantage of this house lied in untidy ceilings with different heights. As a way to achieve uniformity, a ceiling type air-conditioning system, an indirect lighting box and a curtain box were integrated into one functional formation. And the location through which the beam passes was connected to the wall, creating a ㄱ-shaped object under the inverse concept, and therefore the birch wood ㄱ-shaped wall situated in the location, which is the center of the house, became the signature of the house. In the ‘Birch House’, there is no art wall behind the TV which existing houses mostly had in the same locations. In addition, the birch wood ㄱ-shaped wall served as the object of cognitive distinction between kitchen and living room connected due to the limitations of open plan of the conventional apartment. Thus, the two spaces connected physically but distinguished cognitively help to further enhance the level of life.
이 벽은 앞뒤와 그 사이의 면을 모두 자작나무로 채운 형태이다. 색채와 질감, 친환경적 조건 등을 모두 고려해 최고 등급의 자작나무 패널과 엣지 바를 사용했고 마감 도장 또한 친환경 수성 도료를 선택하였다. 부족한 주방 작업공간을 최대한 확보하기 위해 아일랜드 상판 우측에 접이식 작업대를 설치하였다. 손님 접대, 명절 등의 행사를 치르는 경우 매우 유용하게 사용된다. 현관, 다용도실, 마스터 욕실문은 최대한 슬림한 스타일의 슬라이딩 도어로 교체하고 그 문틀 또한 자작나무패널로 제작해 통일감을 부여한다. 하부를 들어올리고 간접 조명을 설치한 신발장, 자작나무 패널 문틀과 자작나무 현관 센서 등으로 통일된 분위기를 연출한다.
This wall takes the form in which all sides between the front and the back are filled with birch wood. The highest-grade birch wood panels and edge bars were used in consideration of color, texture and environment-friendly conditions, and water-based natural paint was also selected for finish painting. The folding workbench was installed on the right side of the Island table to secure sufficient workspace, and it is expected to be especially useful for receiving guests and preparing food for national holidays. Porch, utility room and master bathroom doors are replaced with ultra-slim sliding doors, and door frames are also made of birch wood panels to give the house a sense of unity. The shoe-cabinet in which indirect lighting was installed from the bottom upward, door frames made of birch wood panels and birch wood porch sensor light give a unified representation.
자연스럽게 드러나는 자작나무 ㄱ자 벽의 질감과 유니크한 패널 패턴, 엣지 바의 마띠에르 효과는 수없이 많은 똑같은 집들 중, 그 어느 곳과도 같지 않은 ‘우리집’을 만들어주었다. 이 ‘자작나무 ㄱ집’에서 이제 갓 세상에 온 아가와 부부가 행복하고 아름다운 ‘기억’들을 차곡차곡 채워가기를.
The naturally revealed birch wood ㄱ-shaped wall texture, unique panel patterns and matiere effects of edge bars makes the house unique among all houses with the same types. Hopefully, the couple and their new born baby will fill this birch house with happy and beautiful ‘memories’.(ㄱ and memory are very similar pronunciations of words in Korean.)
