대전 안영동에 얹혀진 거대한 장난감 A giant toy in Anyeong-dong, Daejeon
‘석철목 스튜디오’는 유아용품 전문기업을 위한 직원 복지 공간을 설계하며 거대한 블록 형태의 건물을 완성하였다. 콘크리트 벽체와 PTFE 천막을 조합한 이 건축물은 천막 특유의 유연성을 유지하면서도 콘크리트와 조화를 이루며 독창적인 기하학적 형태를 자아낸다. 이 공간은 휴게공간이자 촬영장으로 활용된다.
‘sukchulmok Studio’ designed a welfare space for the employees of a company specializing in baby products, creating a massive, block-like structure. Combining concrete walls with PTFE membranes, the building maintains the flexibility characteristic of fabric while harmonizing with the solidity of concrete, resulting in a unique geometric form. The space functions both as a lounge and a photo shoot location.
공간과 공간을 연결하는 소통의 장 a place of communication between space and space
대전 안영동은 IC와 인접해 물류 및 유통업이 발달한 산업단지다. 식품과 화장품 등 다양한 산업군의 공장이 밀집한 이곳에서 클라이언트는 본사에서 개발한 제품을 촬영하고 직원들이 휴식하며 창의적인 활동을 할 수 있는 공간을 의뢰하였다.
Anyong-dong in Daejeon is an industrial district adjacent to an interchange (IC), where logistics and distribution industries are well developed. The area is densely populated with factories from various sectors, including food and cosmetics. In this context, the client requested a space where products developed at the company’s headquarters could be photographed, and where employees could relax and engage in creative activities.
프로젝트 부지는 본사 건물 사이에 위치한 공터였다. 건물을 도로변 방향으로 배치함으로써 프라이빗한 야외 정원을 확보하였고 내부에는 높은 천장이 있는 홀과 촬영장(호리존)을 조성하였다. 사이 정원과 스튜디오 건물은 각 부서 직원들 간의 유대감을 높이는 소통의 매개체가 된다.
The project site was a vacant lot situated between the headquarters buildings. By positioning the new structure toward the roadside, a private outdoor garden was secured at the rear. Inside, a hall with a high ceiling and a photography studio (horizon) were created. The garden and studio serve as a medium for communication, fostering connection among employees from different departments.
개방과 폐쇄의 경계를 매끄럽게 연결하다 smooth the relationship between openness and closure
이 파빌리온은 반원형 기둥을 비틀어 만든 틈 사이로 두 개의 입구를 형성하며 자연스럽게 내부와 외부를 연결하는 동선을 만든다. 초기 콘셉트였던 장난감 블록의 조형미를 유지하기 위해 건물의 재료는 적벽돌 콘크리트 PTFE 천막 스틸 네 가지로 제한하고 설비적 요소는 최소화하여 정제된 이미지를 구현하였다.
This pavilion forms two entrances through the twisted gaps between semi-cylindrical columns, naturally creating a circulation path that connects the interior and exterior. To maintain the sculptural quality of toy blocks—an initial concept—the material palette was limited to four: red brick, concrete, PTFE membrane, and steel. Mechanical elements were minimized to achieve a refined and cohesive visual identity.
재료가 분리되는 높이인 3미터를 기준점으로 설정하고 반을 가르는 듯한 디자인을 적용하여 특정 시점에서는 착시 효과가 나타나도록 설계하였다. PTFE 천막과 콘크리트는 독특한 질감의 조화를 이루며 절묘하게 연결되어 하나의 완성된 덩어리처럼 보인다. 바닥에 깔린 적벽돌과 곳곳에 배치된 철제 가구들은 공간의 물성을 더욱 풍부하게 만든다.
A height of three meters, where materials visibly separate, was set as a reference point. A split-like design was applied to create an optical illusion from certain viewpoints. The PTFE membrane and concrete are seamlessly joined, achieving a unique textural harmony and appearing as a singular, unified mass. The red brick flooring and scattered steel furnishings further enrich the materiality of the space.
넓은 공간으로 퍼지는 자연채광과 곡면 벽체는 사용자의 업무 피로를 해소하고 상상력을 자극하는 시간이 되기를 바라는 마음으로 프로젝트를 마무리하였다.
Natural light flooding into the expansive space and the gentle curvature of the walls were designed with the hope of easing users’ work-related fatigue and sparking their imagination.
