스튜디오 제이엠 건축사사무소는 1996년에 설립 후, 건축설계, 도시 디자인 분야의 전문적인 건축설계 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 창의적인 아이디어를 기반으로 건축을 예술(Art)의 한 분야로 바라보며 건축과 예술이 결합되는 공간 예술(Space of Art)을 추구한다. 또한 건축과 관계를 맺는 주변 도시 및 환경과 융합하는 디자인, 사람과 도시를 연결하는 매개체로서의 건축을 통해 새로운 공간적 문화를 창조하며 사회와 소통한다.
Since Studio JM Architects (SJMA), an award-winning and idea-based architecture practice, established in 1996, we have been providing professional services for architectural design and urban design. We focus on the idea to create novel architectural space, integrating diverse type of spaces with art. Based on the above philosophy, we not only design architecture by hybridizing surrounding urban context and the environment into one but also propose ‘architecture’ as a medium of contemporary urban space and liftstyle in the metropolitan cities today, which communicates with society and the people.

스튜디오 제이엠 건축사사무소의 설립자이자 대표 건축사다. 1996년에 건축사사무소 정명을 설립한 이후, 다양한 스케일의 건축설계 프로젝트를 수행해오고 있다. 그는 안산대학교 건축디자인과에서 겸임교수로서 후학 양성에도 힘을 쏟고 있다. 한국건축가협회의 부회장, 경기건축가회 회장 및 부회장, 전국건축사축구동호회 회장 등을 역임하며 건축계의 저변을 확대하는 폭넓은 활동을 펼쳐왔다.
2019년에는 이같은 공로를 인정받아 국토교통부 장관상을 수상했으며, 2015년에는 경기도지사 유공 표창 등을 받았다. 그는 서울과학기술대학교에서 건축공학 학사, 한양대학교에서 건축학 석사 학위를 각각 취득했으며, 대한민국 건축사이자 친환경 건축 전문가이다. 그는 건축과 도시가 서로 조화를 이루면서 공존하는 새로운 공간 문화를 창조하는 데에 힘을 쏟고 있다.
Myungrae Lee, a licenced architect, has been working for diverse scale of architectural design projects, since he established Studio JM Architects (SJMA) – formerly Jungmyung Architects in 1996. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Architectural Design, Ansan University, teaching young architecture students. Additionally, Myungrae was a vice president at the Korean Institute of Architects (KIA), previously worked as a president and vice president at KIA’s Gyunggi-do branch, and also served as a president of soccer club at Korea Institute of Registered Architects (KIRA).
Along with his contribution to the architectural society, he received a Minister’s Award from the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and a Provincial Governor’s Award from Gyeonggi Provincial Government. Moreover, he received B.S.Arch from Seoul National University of Science and Technology and M.Arch from Hanyang University. As an architect and leading architectural professional in South Korea holding architect licensure and G-SEED ID, he thinks that architectural space is a medium of communicating with people and place, creating a new urban culture.

스튜디오 제이엠 건축사사무소의 건축가 이용민은 가천대학교에서 건축학 학사(5년제), 한양대학교에서 건축설계 전공 석사 학위를 취득한 후, 미국 뉴욕 프랫 인스티튜트 건축대학원 (Pratt Institute GAUD)에서 건축도시디자인 전공으로 석사 학위를 받았다. 그는 프랫 인스티튜트에서 프리츠커 건축상을 수상한 Thom Mayne의 마스터 클래스에 최다 선발되었고, 우수 졸업작품으로 선정됐다. 학업을 마친 후, 세계적인 건축가 Rafael Vinoly에게 발탁돼 뉴욕에서 약 3년간 다양한 스케일의 건축설계 실무를 수행하였으며 귀국 후에는 스튜디오 제이엠 건축사사무소의 디자인 담당 건축가로 합류했다.
가천대학교 건축학부의 겸임교수로 활동하고 있으며 한국과 미국의 친환경 건축 전문가 자격증을 보유하고 있다. 그는 <뉴욕, 기억의 도시>와 <뉴욕 건축을 걷다>의 저자이며, 다수의 국제 건축상에 입상했다. 아이디어 중심의 건축설계를 통해 건축과 도시 공간이 상호 조화하는 건축에 관심이 있으며, 건축 뿐만 아니라 도시와 랜드스케이프 분야를 융합하는 연구에 몰두하고 있다.
Architect Yongmin Lee holds B.Arch from Gachon University and M.Arch from Hanyang University in South Korea, and studied architecture and urban design at Pratt Institute Graduate Architecture and Urban Design (GAUD) in New York City. At Pratt, he was selected several times to present his projects in Thom Mayne‘s master class who was a laureate of Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2005 and exhibited his thesis work as a key project of M.S.AUD program. After graduation, he worked for Rafael Vinoly, a world-renowned architect, for three years in New York City, spearheading diverse architectural design projects. And then he returned to South Korea to join Studio JM Architects as a deisgn principal.
Along with his professional career, he has been teaching architecture students at Gachon University as an adjunct professor and holds LEED AP BD+C as well as G-SEED ID. As a young architect, authored <New York, City of Memory> and <Reading Architecture in New York City> and winning several international architecture awards, Yongmin has interests in harmonizing architecture with urban space and people to make interconnected spaces through idea-based architecture and focuses on hybridizing architecture, urbanism and landscape together as interdisciplinary design practice.
