경계 없는 집, 자연을 담는 관측소가 되다
이 주택은 태국 치앙마이 촘통Chom Thong 지역, 울창한 참추리Chamchuri (레인트리) 숲으로 뒤덮인 약 12,140㎡ 규모의 대지 가장자리에 자리한다. 건축주는 최소한의 개입만으로 기존 자연 생태계를 보존하기를 원했다. 집은 대지의 경계가 아닌 가장자리를 따라 기존 수목 사이에 배치했다. 집은 자연을 관찰하기 위한 하나의 전망대처럼 기능한다.
A Home Without Boundaries, Serving as a Nature Observatory
This residential home is situated on the edge of a 3-acre plot, blanketed by a lush Chamchuri (rain tree) forest in Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai. The owner aimed to preserve the natural ecosystem with minimal intervention. Positioned along the plot’s non-boundary edge and nestled among existing trees, the building acts merely as a natural observation space.
대지는 도로 높이에서 거대한 참추리 숲 방향으로 완만하게 경사져 있다. 롱안Longan 과수원을 가로지르는 마을의 개울이 길을 따라 양분되어 흐른다. 설계는 기존 수로의 흐름을 바꾸지 않고 지역 주민들이 계속 개울에 접근할 수 있도록 하는 데서 출발했다. 건물의 벽은 사생활을 위한 경계이자 울타리 역할을 수행하지만, 동시에 안과 밖의 시선을 완전히 차단하지 않는다. 덕분에 바람과 공기, 마을의 소리들이 자연스럽게 실내로 스며든다. 덕분에 거주자는 시각과 촉각을 통해 주변 자연환경과 긴밀하게 연결된다.
The land slopes from the road level down to a vast Chamchuri forest, bisected by a community stream flowing through a longan orchard. With the intention of not change the flow way and allow community access to the stream, the building’s walls act a divisionfence of privacy by itself while still permitting views in and out. This allows air, wind, and community sounds enabling residents to fully engage with the natural environment through sight and touch.
건축 방식은 단순하다. 박공지붕 형태를 기반으로 한 RC 콘크리트 구조를 적용해 지역 시공팀이 쉽게 공사할 수 있도록 했다. 건물 외부는 목재 루버로 감쌌다. 외장재에는 현지에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 쇼레아Shorea 목재를 사용했다. 목재 표면에는 값싸고 구하기 쉬운 폐 엔진오일을 도포*해 외부 환경으로부터 보호했는데, 이는 북부 태국 지역 목수들의 전통적인 생활 지혜에서 비롯된 방식이다.
*폐엔진오일 도포: 전용 목재 보존제(오일 스테인 등)가 보급되기 전, 전 세계 시골 지역에서 목재의 수명을 늘리기 위해 널리 사용되던 전통적인 토착 건축 기법으로 알려져 있다. 기름 성분의 방수 효과로 나무가 썩는 것을 막고 석유 성분으로 흰개미 같은 해충을 차단하는 원리다.
The body of architectural method is simple, featuring formation from a gabled roof with RC concrete structures that easy executed by local builder team. Encased in timber batten all around, The batten walls are made of locally sourced wood, Shorea that coated with used black engine oiled that cheap and easily to found for protect the external wood though the local wisdom of Northern builder.
마을 도로를 향한 주 진입 복도는 침실과 가장 안쪽의 거실로 이어진다. 가족의 공용 공간은 경사진 대지의 가장 깊은 곳에 배치되어 충분한 프라이버시를 확보하면서도, 참추리 숲과 도이 인타논Doi Inthanon 산맥 풍경을 향해 열린 시야를 제공한다. 특히 다리 끝에 마련된 전망 데크에서는 주변 자연을 한눈에 조망할 수 있다.
The main hallway, facing the village road, leads to the bedrooms and living room at the far end. The family’s living space, situated at the deepest part of the house on the sloping terrain, ensures privacy while still offering views of the natural Chamchuri forest landscape and the Doi Inthanon mountain range from the observation deck at the end of the bridge.
이 전망대 같은 공간에서는 해 질 무렵 마지막 빛이 숲 위로 내려앉는 순간과 손대지 않은 자연의 고요함을 가까이에서 체험할 수 있다. 동시에 이곳은 앞으로 가족의 다양한 활동을 수용할 수 있도록 유연하게 계획되었다.
The serenity and unspoiled wildness of nature, especially the last light before sunset, can be intimately experienced from the observatory. This space is also adaptable to accommodate various future family activities.
