분주함으로 가득한 교내 식당에서 진정한 ‘여유 있는 식사’의 의미를 다시 묻는다. 이용자 대부분은 고개를 들지 않은 채 식사를 빠르게 마친 후 다음 목적지를 향해 바쁘게 이동한다. 간혹 넉넉한 간격으로 배치된 테이블이 물리적인 여유를 암시하지만, 공간에 흐르는 공기는 오히려 서두름과 긴장감으로 가득하다. 머무는 시간이 짧다는 사실이 이 공간의 분위기를 좌우한다. 결국 ‘여유 있는 식사’란 공간이 유도하는 태도에 가까운 개념일 수 있다.
In a campus cafeteria filled with hustle and bustle, the question of what it truly means to have a “leisurely meal” is revisited. Most diners rush through their food without even lifting their heads, quickly moving on to their next destination. Although the wide spacing between tables might suggest physical comfort, the atmosphere is often thick with urgent and tension. It is the brevity of stay that defines the mood of the space. In this sense, a leisurely meal may not be about how one eats, but more about the posture that a space encourages.
이 식당은 전창을 통해 시야가 옥상 테라스를 넘어 주변 동네 풍경까지 확장되는 만큼 위치적 매력이 뛰어나다. 이러한 기존 공간의 장점을 최대한 살리고자 식사 공간은 바깥과 밀접하게 배치했다. 주방을 중심으로 외부와 맞닿은 공간은 식사를 위한 장소로 비워두고, 시선이 자연스럽게 바깥으로 이어지도록 했다. 이는 내외부의 경계를 흐릿하게 만들고 풍경의 연속성을 강조하려는 의도다.
The cafeteria boasts a broad view through full-height windows, extending over the rooftop terrace to the surrounding neighborhood-a location with inherent spatial appeal. To take full advantage of this existing potential, the dining area was positioned adjacent to the exterior. The area facing outward from the centrally located kitchen was left open for dining, guiding the gaze naturally toward the outside. This approach blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, emphasizing the continuity of the landscape.
공간의 성격은 재료의 적용 방식과 세밀도에 따라 달라진다. 중앙에 있는 주방은 무게감 있는 볼륨으로 계획하고, 석재와 같은 중량감 있는 마감재를 적용해 공간의 밀도를 높였다.
The character of the space shifts with the hierarchy and precision of material application. The central kitchen is designed as a dense core, clad in heavy finishes such as stone to create a sense of solidity.
반면 식사 공간에는 세분화된 요소들과 목재와 같은 경량 마감재를 사용해 공간의 밀도를 낮췄고, 외부로 팽창하는 듯한 공간감을 형성했다. 내부에서 외부 처마까지 이어지는 목재 루버는 시각적 연속성을 더한다.
In contrast, the dining area uses lighter materials like wood and is broken down into smaller elements to lower spatial density, giving a sense of openness that expand outward. A series of wooden louvers extend from the interior to the outer eaves, reinforcing visual continuity.
이를 통해 이용자들은 식사 도중 자연스럽게 외부 풍경을 바라보고, 계절과 날씨의 변화를 느끼며 각자의 속도로 여유를 누릴 수 있다. 이 식당이 일상의 여유를 경험하는 장소가 되기를 기대한다.
This invites diners to naturally observe the scenery feel the changing seasons and weather, and enjoy a moments of calm at their own pace. The hope is for this cafeteria to transcend its role as a mere food service space and become a place where people can experience true leisure in their daily lives.
